A Hard Fought Match Across the Hudson Ends in Another Loss

Spindles United (0-1) made the trip across the Hudson River to face Collar City FC (1-0) in their first scheduled UPL match after years of competing in the CDSL.
As expected, the match was a hard-fought battle from the opening whistle. Spindles started brightly, applying pressure to Collar City’s backline and creating several promising opportunities early on, but were unable to find the breakthrough.
The intensity and quality of the match continued to grow throughout the first half, with both sides remaining organized defensively as the game entered halftime scoreless at 0-0.
Collar City looked dangerous on the counterattack throughout the second half, testing the Spindles defense with quick transitions and direct play. At the other end, Spindles continued to create chances but could not convert their opportunities into goals.
The decisive moment came in the 75th minute when Collar City capitalized on a counterattack. A long ball over the top split the defense, allowing the forward to race through, round the Spindles goalkeeper, and calmly finish to give the hosts a 1-0 lead, 75’.
Spindles pushed forward in search of an equalizer during the closing stages, but despite creating additional chances, the final touch continued to evade them.
Collar City earned a red card in the 90’, but the man advantage didn’t last long.
The match remained physical and competitive until the final whistle, with Collar City securing the 1-0 victory.
Spindles United (0-2) will now turn their attention to Friday, May 30, when they host Patroon United (2-0) in the club’s first-ever competitive home match at Waterford-Halfmoon High School.
