Spindles Lose First Match in the UPL

UPL Matchweek 1

Mohawk City 1 - 0 Spindles

An exciting weekend for the Spins turned into a disappointing one after a 1-0 loss to Mohawk City FC in our first ever UPL match.

The UPL kicked off on May 17, with 6 different clubs competing all across the Capital Region.

Spindles United proudly co-founded the UPL and have helped get the league to a Matchweek 1.

Despite a successful kickoff weekend across the league, Spindles would unfortunately not have much to celebrate.

Spindles travelled away for Matchweek 1 to Union College to Mohawk City FC

The match did not offer much from either side.

Midfield battles lost and won by both teams, with a handful of chances at both ends.

In the 22nd minute of the match Spindles were awarded a corner kick from which Mohawk countered and some sloppy defensive play from Spindles lead to the first and only goal of the match from Mohawk city.

After a poor first half Spindles came out in the second with more build up play and chances on goal.

However, no one was able to break the deadlock.

A game full of emotions lead defender Nico Faretta to receive his second yellow card in his Spindles debut and Spindles were down to 10 men with 5 minutes left to play.

Spindles pushed but could not find the net.

The match ended 1-0 to Mohawk city, handing Spindles their first loss ever in a season opening match.

Spindles will look to bounce back and get their first goal and first win next week with a much anticipated match up with a cross river rival Collar City FC

That match will be played on Friday May 22nd 7pm at Lansingburgh High School.
