Spindles Handed Second Loss of the Season

Motherland 3 - 2 Spindles

7’ - Locicero

24’ Donner (Crook)

A hard fought match on Thursday night against league newcomers Motherland Bros ended in a loss for Spindles.

The match opened up with immediate action after a mis-timed challenge in the box gave Motherland a penalty inside the first 3 minutes.

What looked to be a rough start for the Spins, was saved by goalkeeper Ryan Taylor who made the stop from the PK spot. Keeping the sides level at 0-0.

Shortly after, against the run of play, Manuel Zevallos took a freekick from 40 yards out hoping to catch the keeper off his line.

The ball rebounded off the crossbar where John Locicero tucked it away for his 7th goal of the season. The most by any Spindles player in a single season. 1-0, 7’.

The game went back and forth for both sides, before Motherland tied it about 15 minutes later.

However, Spindles lead was quickly reestablished by striker Josh Donner who made a powerful run from half field before tucking one away in the bottom corner. Donner’s first game back since his injury during Matchweek 1. 2-1, 24’.

Chances for both teams were slim for the rest of the first half. And for Spindles, their chances in the game would pretty much end there.

Despite going into the second half with a 2-1 lead, Motherland would go on to dominate possession for the rest of game.

Exposing Spindles on numerous occasions. And just enough to bag two more during the second half for a final score of 3-2.

Spindles go again next week on Thursday against Ligon FC at 6:15pm.

Matchweek 6 was presented by Defined Massage.
