Spindles Take Down Vassi in a Close Contest

Spindles bounce back into the win column after a tight victory over Vassi Realty on Tuesday night.
The Spins started the match with a handful of chances, looking to break the deadlock early.
Up and down the wings, the Vassi defense was staying strong.
About 30 minutes later, a corner taken by Zeidane Adjei was punched out by the Vassi keeper. However, it wasn’t enough as it found the volley of John Locicero. 1-0, 38’.
After breaking the scoreline, Spindles looked to get more before the end of the first half.
Shortly after, Lewis Whalen carried the ball in the center of the park before placing a perfect through ball in behind the Vassi backline.
Locicero found himself 1-1 with the keeper, calmly dribbled around him and tucked it home into an open net. 2-0, 44’.
Spirits were high at the half-time break.
The game continued to go well for Spindles in the beginning of the second.
Frankie Palumbo threads a pass to the wing for Ryan Breen who took it down the line before crossing one to find the head of Locicero. His first club hat-trick. 3-0, 50’.
What seemed like a runaway match, turned upside down.
About 10 minutes later, a Spindles foul in the box handed Vassi a penalty which was converted.
Less than 5 minutes after, another foul in the box gave Vassi another penalty which was converted.
Just like that, it’s a 3-2 game. Vassi have life and Spindles look to hold on to the lead.
The last 25 minutes was a battle for both sides.
Spindles did win a penalty to help extend their 1 goal lead, but it was unfortunately saved by the Vassi keeper.
The last few minutes of the match saw an altercation between a Spindles player and an opposing Vassi player.
Both players were ejected for Violent Conduct and left the game at 10v10 for the last 2 minutes.
Luckily, Spindles held on in the dying moments to take home all 3 points. Going 4-1 on the season.
Locicero’s hat-trick secured him the Capital Region Embroidery Man of the Match award.
Spindles also have a much needed break before Matchweek 6 against league newcomers Motherland Bros. Kicking off on Thursday, May 29 at 6:15pm.
