Spindles Keep Winning After Taking Down the Champs
Spindles 3 - 2 FCSB
47’ - Trestick
84’ - Adjei (P)
90’ - Adjei (P)
After a rainy week, the skies cleared for our Tuesday night matchup against 2024 CDSL Champions, FCSB.
An entertaining game for the neutral, saw Spindles take all 3 points in the end.
The match kicked off with Spindles on their heels for a majority of the first half.
As expected, FCSB are a top side who came to score. However, the Spindles backline led by Captain Dan Crook stayed strong for the entire first half.
Goal line clearances, last ditch tackles and big saves from goalkeeper Ryan Taylor kept both sides level at 0-0. End of the first half.
The second half started, and FCSB continued to press for that opening goal.
As the game became more stretched, some high press from Spindles saw the FCSB keeper and defense miscommunicate, leaving Anders Trestick to run past both and tap one home in an open net.
Against the wave of play, Spindles open the scoring. 1-0, 47’.
FCSB continued to press, leaving plenty of work for the Spindles backline.
However, after about 10 minutes a corner kick found the head of an FCSB player. 1-1, 55’.
Shortly after, another chance found the champs in behind the line and easily putting another away. 1-2, 60’.
The pressure continued to pile on Spindles, now trailing 2-1. However, the chances started coming on both ends now.
With less than 10 minutes to go, a shot by Zeidane Adjei goes straight into the hand of an FCSB defender, which is outstretched over his head. Penalty to Spindles.
Adjei calmly steps up, and buries it home bottom left corner. 2-2, 84’.
In a game of drama, it was looking more and more like both sides would share the spoils.
However in the dying minutes of the match, Adjei breaks away down the right side before being taken out by an FCSB defender just inside the penalty area. Another penalty to Spindles.
Despite FCSB’s cries that the foul was not on the box, the referee proceeded to hand out a red card to one of their defenders for verbal abuse.
The last minute of the game, rightfully so Adjei steps up for another chance. This time to steal all 3 points. And that is just what he did. Slotted away in the bottom right corner just under the keeper. 3-2, 90’.
After a few minutes of additional time, the referee blew the final whistle sealing the win for the Spins.
Handing FCSB their first loss (in a regulation game) since they rejoined the league in 2024.
Spindles saw some big performances from everyone, especially in the back two-thirds.
However, Adjei took on the pressure and converted the game tying goal, and game winner from the spot. Earning him the Guth DeConzo Man of the Match award.
Special thank you to all the supporters who made it out on Tuesday night!
Spindles return to action on Sunday afternoon at 3 pm, where we will take on Highlanders and hope to go 4-0 on the season.
