With playoff positioning becoming increasingly important, Spindles United traveled to face Patroon United in the second meeting between the two clubs this season. The first encounter ended in a gritty 1-0 Spindles victory despite playing down two men. This time, however, Spindles arrived at full strength, and they wasted no time making their presence felt.

Just 17 seconds into the match, Spindles struck. An aggressive high press from the front two forced a mistake from the Patroon goalkeeper, whose misplaced pass fell straight to Anders Trestick. Without hesitation, Trestick unleashed a first-time finish into the back of the net, scoring the fastest goal in Spindles United history and giving the visitors an instant 1-0 lead. 1-0, 1’.

The early goal set the tone for a competitive first half. Both sides battled for control in midfield, with Patroon searching for long balls over the top while Spindles’ back line stood firm. Chances came at both ends, but disciplined defending and solid goalkeeping kept the score unchanged as Spindles carried a 1-0 advantage into halftime.

The second half continued with both teams searching for the next breakthrough. Patroon found their opportunity after a Spindles foul created a dangerous free-kick just outside the area. The ensuing strike slipped through the wall and nestled into the back of the net, leveling the match at 1-1.

Rather than panic, Spindles remained composed. They controlled stretches of possession and created several promising attacks, but the finishing touch remained elusive.

That changed in the 80th minute.

A brilliant individual effort from John Locicero saw him beat his defender down the wing before cutting inside and forcing a strong save from the Patroon goalkeeper. Waiting in the perfect position was Anders Trestick, who hammered the rebound into the top corner with his left foot to restore the Spindles lead. The finish completed Trestick’s brace and put Spindles ahead 2-1, 80’.

Only three minutes later, Trestick wasn’t finished. Relentless pressing forced another turnover deep in Patroon’s half, allowing him to race in one-on-one with the goalkeeper. Calmly slotting home the finish, Trestick completed a remarkable hat trick, bringing his UPL tally to four goals and extending the lead to 3-1, 83’.

Spindles continued to push forward, looking to put the match beyond doubt. Following an extended spell of possession, Danny Sanchez picked out Ryan Breen in space. Breen drove directly at the Patroon defense, split two defenders with a brilliant run, and unleashed a thunderous strike from 25 yards that rocketed into the net for his first UPL goal of the season. It was a spectacular finish that capped off a dominant closing stretch for the visitors. 4-1, 88’.

Spindles comfortably saw out the remaining minutes, turning in another outstanding defensive performance to secure a convincing 4-1 victory on the road.

The win improves Spindles United to 4-1-3, strengthening their push toward a UPL playoff berth, while Patroon United falls to 4-2-2.

With the postseason race heating up, Spindles will look to build on their momentum next week when they take on United Soccer Group (3-1-4). Man of the Match honors went to Anders Trestick after his second career Spindles hat trick, highlighted by the fastest goal in club history just 17 seconds into the match.
