Spindles Lose First Match at Home
Spindles 1 - 2 Mohawk
51’ - Adjei (Locicero)
June 19, 2026 | Waterford-Halfmoon High School
Spindles United (3-0-2) welcomed fellow Upstate Premier League contender Mohawk City FC (3-0-2) to Waterford-Halfmoon High School for a pivotal Matchweek 6 clash.
The opening 45 minutes were evenly contested, with both sides battling for possession and neither able to create many clear-cut opportunities. Spindles began to settle into the match as halftime approached, controlling much of the ball but unable to find the breakthrough as the teams entered the break level at 0-0.
The hosts came out with purpose in the second half, and their pressure was rewarded in the 51st minute. A well-worked team move found John Locicero on the wing, who delivered a dangerous ball into the box. Zeidane Adjei met it first time with his weaker foot, firing home to give Spindles a deserved 1-0 lead and net his second goal of the UPL season.
The advantage, however, was short-lived. Mohawk City responded by raising the intensity and eventually found an equalizer in the 64th minute. A swift counterattack ended with a pinpoint cross and a perfectly placed header to level the score at 1-1.
The visitors continued to press, and with emotions running high, they completed the comeback in the 70th minute. Another dangerous ball across the face of goal found its target, with Mohawk calmly finishing from close range to take a 2-1 lead.
Spindles searched for a late response, but Mohawk’s defense stood firm through the closing stages. Despite a strong start to the second half, the hosts were unable to recover as they dropped all three points at home.
Spindles United will look to bounce back on Matchweek 7 when they host Collar City FC (3-0-3) on Sunday, June 28, at Waterford-Halfmoon High School.
