On Thursday night, Spindles kicked off the 2025 CDSL campaign with an emphatic victory over our across the bridge rivals Collar City FC.
A beautiful night to return to Nott Road for a 4th year straight, Spindles wasted no time getting on the score sheet.
In the 5th minute, an easy pass from Spindles Captain Marcos Lopez gave Zeidane Adjei time and space to cut inside with his right, and power one into the top left corner from outside the 18. 1-0, 5’.
Spindles continued to press, putting pressure on the Collar City backline.
10 minutes later, Lopez takes a shot inside the box before hitting the hand of a City defender.
Penalty to Spindles, as John Locicero buried it home in the top corner. 2-0, 15’.
More pressure from Spindles in the first half gave a free kick to Mason Kievit from half.
Kievit whipped one in to find Jimmy Alexander who brought it down and squared it across for an easy tap-in by Captain Dan Crook. 3-0, 31’.
Before finishing the half, Spindles look to create one last chance. Lopez fed a simple pass again to Ammar Singaporewala who sent a left foot curler near post. His first ever Spindles goal. 4-0, 45’.
Spirits were high at half-time. And Spindles wanted to keep the party going in the second.
1 minute after the second kickoff, Locicero pressured the back line forcing error by defender and keeper opening the net for his second of the night. 5-0, 47’.
Less than 10 minutes later, Collar City would look to get one back with a right foot curler. 5-1, 55’.
However, that is where their night on the scoresheet would end.
Some good build up play by the Spindles midfield saw Andrew Michel give an easy pass to Singaporewala, who sent a knuckling shot from 30 yards over the keeper. His second of the night. 6-1, 81’.
The scoresheet was capped off in the dying minutes, when Locicero sent a thread pass through the middle to Anders Trestick on his Spindles debut. Trestick took it past the last defender, before tucking it around the keeper for his first Spindles goal. 7-1, 91’.
The final whistle blew, capping off a huge scoreline for our season opener.
Ammar Singaporewala was named the Bear Digital Man of the Match for his 2 goals, and dominance of the midfield from minute 1 to 90.
