44' - Luke Geczy
47' - Luke Geczy (Moulay Aladlouni)
Spindles United (3) took on Deathwish (2) in a CDSL Semi-Final clash on Tuesday night.
During the regular season, Deathwish bested the Spins twice. Outscoring the red 9-2 across two games. But the third time seemed the charm.
The first 30 minutes of the game was dominated by Spindles in possession and chances.
However, against the grain, Deathwish had their first chance with a counterattack to open the scoring, 1-0 30'.
That did not stop the Spins though.
Within minutes, a hard attacking press caused a turnover from Deathwish. Forward Zeidane Adjei capitalized by scoring a beautiful 20-yard curler into the top corner, 33'. His second of the season.
Shortly after in the 39', Adjei found himself in a similar position hitting another screamer. Putting the Spins up 2-1. Now his third of the season.
More pressure from Spindles lead to another defensive mistake on the Deathwish backline. Forward Luke Geczy capitalized and slotted his first goal of the season into the bottom corner, 44' 3-1.
The second half started with more fire, as the Spins found themselves in another attack with Moulay Ahmed Aladlouni serving Luke Geczy for his second of the match, 47' 4-1.
Last night's match was Geczy's first time back on the roster since Matchweek 6 due to a hamstring injury.
Spindles continued the second half with the majority of possession.
But the opposition did not back down.
Deathwish scored a late goal in the hopes of a comeback.
But the Spins back third held on strong with crucial saves from goalkeeper Josh Marer.
Man of the Match winner Capitan Cole Rust kept the defense organized and disciplined to hold off any more goals.
The match ended 4-2, punching a ticket for Spindles United's first-ever finals appearance.
Spindles United will take on the winner of Vassi Realty (1) vs. Rascals (5) in the last semi-final this Sunday.
The championship match will be held on Thursday, August 10 at 8:30 pm
