On March 12, Spindles United held its first and final tryout for the 2023 season. This is following a successful “judgment-free” open scrimmage back in mid-August.
The Spring Tryout was a successful event for the club. A total of 35 players came to participate at a competitive level. It ended up being a great opportunity to meet and watch the new players who have shown interest in joining the club. Which is exactly what we hoped for.
We started out with small-sided 9v9, where we had 4 teams playing 10-minute games, or first to 3 goals. It was a good rotation of players to gauge everyone’s small play, allowing for more touches overall.
Following the small-sided games, we ended with two full field, 30-minute, 11v11 games. This gave us a good chance to try different formations and rotate players in different positions.
Overall, the Spring Tryouts gave us a great look at the players we want to be a part of the club's vision and how they mesh with each other. We are looking for more than just on-field product as we strive to make impacts greater than sport.
This is going to be a big season for Spindles, and we are excited to bring so many new faces on board.
The 2023 roster will be decided and finalized within the next week. Our player announcements will follow in the coming weeks.
A special thanks to Kieran McDonald and Sean Quell for their volunteer help at this event.
